Some smaller projects within the SEMSWA jurisdiction may not require a Grading, Erosion and Sediment Control (GESC) permit.
Projects that have minor ground disturbances, short construction durations and no impact to waterways are classified as “Low Risk”. Some examples for low risk projects include but not limited to wooden fences, residential landscaping, generator pads, etc…
When the Low Risk classification is appropriate for the proposed project the contractor or property owner must ensure that sediment or waste material does not leave the project site during or after construction is completed. SEMSWA has created GESC Consideration Fact Sheets for use by the contractor or property owner for Low Risk projects.
If the GESC Considerations are not followed and transport of sediment or waste material have left the site, a permit must be applied for or in some cases a fine may be assessed.
To see if your project can be classified as Low Risk, please call to speak with a SEMSWA Land Development Engineer.
